Asfærix and Obelix

Busy day today.

Not much happened at work. I was feeling sick so Sanne let me leave a little early. That was nice. I went to Profil Optik and gave them the loaner glasses back. I talked to the same guy as on Tuesday. He was nice and friendly. He took me backstage and gave me an eye test.

For some reason my left eye is better than my right. My right eye is -9, my left is -7,5. I don't know if there is a universal eye strength number, but to sum it up: I can't hardly see. Yes. I really experienced that when I got my old glasses back on after the eye test. I was looking through that eye test machine at a chart with letters and I could read them okay with the lens strength in the machine.. then I put on my old glasses. And I couldn't read any of it. Not even the top line. It was just all a blur. So it will be a very good thing to get new glasses, I reallly need them badly. Instead of being blind as a bat I'll be blind as a bat with extra-powerful glasses. Better than nothing.

He also tightened up my old glasses. They had gotten all bent and lose over the years. When I got them back it felt like I was wearing a whole new pair. Nice and tight.

Maybe I should have just pretended that my old, tightened glasses were the new ones. That would have saved me an awful lot of money. It ended up costing 6300 kroners. That's a lot of money to pay for glasses. Maybe too much. But I think I'll get a really nice pair out of it. So it's okay. I even got a little discount. We talked about what kind of lenses I wanted. And he put down 3 possibilities. The cheap standard ones that would have pretty thick lenses. The more expensive middle ones that would be thinner but not super thin. And then the super new lens type. The "aspherical" ones. Or is it "aspheric"? They're super thin, with biggest field of vision quality and all around fashionable goodness. But most expensive too of course. I told him that the middle ones were probably most in my price range. He said that was fine, but of course he would like to sell me the most expensive ones, and also he would like me to have the best glasses I could have. Aw, ain't that sweet? Well, he tempted me with a discount if I bought the expensive ones. And I did actually want the expensive ones. And I think Skye really wanted me to have them too. For some reason she doesn't seem to think that big, thick lenses are sexy. Girls, eh? Hehe. But anyway, yes. He knocked 400 kroners off the price and I accepted that. It's still an expensive pair of glasses. But I think I'll be happy with them. They're very nice. And hopefully they'll last me a long time too.

I'm just glad it's (almost) done now. In 10-14 days I'll get my new glasses. It'll be a whole new me. I hope I can get used to them, it will be a fair big change from these huge, heavy ones I'm carrying around now. I have been worrying too much about it. And postponing. Really, I was talking to Skye about new glasses this summer, before all the hospital business. I've been really, badly needing new glasses for 6 months, if not a year. Finally, finally it will be done.

So, tomorrow Knud Erik from the Reva center will come visit me at Kulturgyngen. For a follow up meeting. Normally I would be nervous about that, but I'm quite happy with how things are going at work. And I'm even sort of looking forward to seeing Knud Erik again, he's a nice guy. Plus I'll have weekend after it. Rarely have a weekend been so welcome. It's been a long week. Long work hours and all the optician business. Plus a lingering cold and some sick feelings. Now is the time to rest, soon.
